In 2002, New Mexico Tech's Computer Science and Engineering department earned the school institutional designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education from the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security. The department has not only renewed its NSA/DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education status, but also added the prestigious designation of NSA/DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research.
